Jen Printy shares a story of love that has survived one hundred and fifty years of separation in her novel, My Soul Immortal. This is the first book in the Fated Eternals series and based on the first installment, I don't think readers will be disappointed.

Jack is the main character of the novel and the story is told from his perspective. He's an immortal. The only reason he knows that is because he's tried multiple times over the years to end his turmoil. After his fiancee, Lydia, died, Jack struggled with depression and despair. At the beginning of the novel, readers witness the hopeless, weary, downtrodden Jack. Allowing readers to see this puts his transformation into stark contrast. When he travels to Maine and meets Leah - Lydia's memory personified - he begins to change. Jack evolves into a caring, loving man. Though he can be a little overbearing at time, readers will enjoy the love story.

The novel begins with Jack escaping L.A. and moving to Maine. After his arrival, Jack takes a job a bookstore and literally stumbles into Leah. He doesn't understand why she looks exactly like his Lydia, but he's determined to find out. After he is able to make the connections, he makes a fatal mistake. An unlikely immortal witnesses Jack walking in on a robbery and her morbid interest is piqued. Her sights settle on Jack and she'll do anything in her power to bring him suffering because, sadly, that's just how she is. Now Jack must protect Leah, and the only way he can really do that is if he tells her the truth about what he is and what she is.

The writing style, the pace, and plot action were all properly executed to make this book a great piece of paranormal fiction. I greatly enjoyed reading it and I think the character/reader connection will only grow with further installments of the series. I highly recommend it for mature young adult and paranormal fans as the language is a little sharp at times.

Fierce Dawn

Snarling teeth, glowing eyes. Someone--something--is after her. The man who haunts her dreams enters her reality, claiming she's transforming into a changeling--not quite immortal but no longer human.

Battle lines are drawn and blood spills as the two fight not only for her life, but for mankind's as well. Conspiracy, vampires, human changelings? - Goodreads Blurb

Amber Scott's novel Fierce Dawn lowers the curtain between the mortal realm and the realm of the immortals. The book focuses on Sadie, a girl who isn't normal, by anyone's standards, but who wants to be more than anything.

Scott writes Sadie's character as a girl who fears she may be insane. And with her sister thinking it too, it seems to be the path she's traveling down. After all, her mother was psychotic and delusional.

I love how Scott created Sadie with this image. It seems logical, and very believable, that a human being who can see into the immortal realm would think they were insane.

But, honestly, I had a hard time connecting with Sadie. She's a likable enough character though demons haunt her past. She struggles like any young adult would without parents to guide her. The main reason I feel contempt for her is that she refused to ask for help: with her dreams, her crush, discovering she was a changeling, learning that someone was endangering her life, the fact that she was transitioning...

Sadie only focused on the fact that she didn't want to be protected. And that's understandable, to a point. She has been over-coddled since she had a mental breakdown, but come on girl, you can't do everything on your own. Especially face an immortal who wants to kill you, and maybe your sister and cousin.

The plot, overall, was well-thought out. I had no idea what was going to happen the entire novel. I tried guessing, but it didn't happen. I wasn't even close. I like when that happens. :) But... I did feel like the entire book was really fast-paced. Before I had enough time to absorb the information I had just read, the plot was rushing into new territory.

Don't get me wrong, I like a thrilling novel that won't let me go, but I also like understanding what's going on. I felt confused and lost a few times. And I don't really like when that happens.

As Fate Would Have It

Again I give in and pick up a paranormal novel. And again, I love it. S. L. Baum takes the mystery of the unknown to a new level with A Chance for Charity.

Charity has moved so many times in her ninety years that she can't remember her name. Her current name that is, the one on the attendance sheet at her new high school in a small Colorado town. Wishing she could act her appearance age of twenty instead of seventeen, she soon changes her mind when she sees Link for the first time at a Halloween school dance.

They are drawn together, as fate would seem to have it. The kind of love that people dream (and read) about.

But neither one is safe. Charity and her unrelated family are hiding from the Lord brothers. A history of violence and hunting between the Lord family and the race of Charity's people threatens to expose them in this friendly small town. Now that Charity has found someone to love, can she give it all up to go into hiding somewhere new? For a romance that will have you cheeks hurting from smiling so much, pick up this book (currently free for the Kindle) and smile away. One of the many books that I've not been able to put down after chapter one.
