A Dance With Dragons

The future of the Seven Kingdoms hangs in the balance.

In the east, Daenerys, last scion of House Targaryen, her dragons grown to terrifying maturity, rules as queen of a city built on dust and death, beset by enemies.

Now that her whereabouts are known many are seeking Daenerys and her dragons. Among them the dwarf, Tyrion Lannister, who has escaped King’s Landing with a price on his head, wrongfully condemned to death for the murder of his nephew, King Joffrey. But not before killing his hated father, Lord Tywin.

To the north lies the great Wall of ice and stone – a structure only as strong as those guarding it. Eddard Stark's bastard son Jon Snow has been elected the 998th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, but he has enemies both in the Watch and beyond the Wall, where the wildling armies are massing for an assault.

On all sides bitter conflicts are reigniting, played out by a grand cast of outlaws and priests, soldiers and skinchangers, nobles and slaves. The tides of destiny will                                                                   inevitably lead to the greatest dance of all…

Winter is coming. And everyone in the Seven Kingdoms and beyond know it. In the fifth installment of A Song of Fire and Ice series, A Dance With Dragons, by George R.R. Martin, the storm that will sweep all of our favorite characters into the ominous winter is brewing. No one is safe.

As promised at the end of A Feast For Crows, all of the characters that we've followed throughout the books are back. They all have their goals and secret motivations, with betrayal hiding up their sleeves. Personally, I wanted to read more about Tyrion, Arya, and Dany. And I got exactly that. Though, Arya didn't have as many chapters as I would have liked. I really want to know how she's going to play a part in the game of thrones.

Tyrion has become a very dynamic character. The personality traits that made him a villain in the earlier books, have now developed into traits that make him seem (almost) a hero.

Dany, the Queen, mother of dragons, freer of slaves. Her character is beyond my favorite and the story that she lives out is full of duty and honor to her people. And her dragons. But they're growing larger and becoming harder to control. The chapters dedicated to her are so interesting, readers may even be skipping ahead.

And let's not forget the wonderful Jon Snow up there at the Wall. Jon's view of the story was the most intriguing one of all the different viewpoints in this novel. As Commander of the Wall, Jon plays a vital role in protecting the realm from what hides north of the wall. When Stannis Baratheon (a player in the game for kings) leaves his red priestess with Jon at the Wall things really heat up. (Catch the pun?) Then the Red Priestess predicts that Jon has daggers all around him, a warning ensues detailing that his life is in danger. Here's hoping that when the sixth book is finally finished - Jon is in it.

The new characters in this novel all play a vital part in advancing the plot. What readers didn't get from the fourth book, is explained and played out in this one. And although there were chapters of "down time," per say, this novel was one of the best in the series. Martin does a wonderful job in advancing the characters, changing alliances, betraying the seasoned characters, promising a glorious outcome, and surprising the hell out of the readers.

WWW-Wednesday (6)

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?

• What did you recently finish reading?

• What do you think you’ll read next?

01. Currently Reading:
100 pages left of A Dance With Dragons! :) I promised to commit and finish it so I have and will. Hopefully, tonight will allow me tons of reading time so that I can post a review tomorrow. This will also be the last book in my Spring Into Reading 2012 challenge. Happy times!

02. Recently Finished:
Two books are included this week! :) I finished both Thirteen Reasons Why (Jay Asher) and Bound (Kira Saito). They were both great reads, but Thirteen Reasons Why was just amazing. I've been telling everyone about this book because I couldn't help myself. Bound was a little disappointing when it came to connecting with the characters. Though, I'm still glad that I read it.

03. Reading Next:
Love Unlisted by Stephanie Haddad is up next for this book lover. OCD list maker meets carefree-guitar-playing-clumsy musician... Yes, please. :D

01. Currently Reading:
Yes, I am still reading A Dance With Dragons (George R.R. Martin), one day I will commit and finish this massive book. If only other delicious sounding novels would stop tempting me to read them.

02. Recently Finished:
The Mind Readers by Lori Brighton. Amazing plot full of secrets and lies and betrayal. The second novel, The Mind Thieves has been added to my TBR, too bad it's currently at the bottom.

03. Reading Next:
Tears of the Broken (Dark Secrets) by A.M. Hudson. Free for Kindle right now on Amazon, this novel asks if love is enough to forgive murder. Add vampires to the mix and Hudson has me dying to read this one.

• What do you think you’ll read next?

01. Currently Reading:
Still working my way through A Dance With Dragons by George R.R. Martin. The story is wonderful but the length is what's forcing me to really slow down and pay attention. Which is why other books that I plan on reading are becoming simultaneous reads.

02. Recently Finished:
Once Bitten by Trina M. Lee and I just posted the review. This novel was deathly entertaining! I'm glad that I picked it up even though I was a little disappointed. Still a great read!

03. Reading Next:
Duplicity by Nikki Jefford is the next on my reading list. I read book one, Entangled, last week and since the second one came out a couple of days ago I'm determined to finish it off too.

01. Currently Reading:
A Dance With Dragons by George R. R. Martin. This is the last book in the series that is published, and the last one on my Spring Into Reading 2012 Challenge. At around 1000 pages, it should take me a bit of time, but absolutely worth it because all my favorite characters are back! :D

02. Recently Finished:
Entangled by Nikki Jefford, Spellbound #1. This novel was a wonderful break from the genres I've been reading lately. I love reading young adult literature every now and again. Now that I've read this first installment in the series, I'm sure I'll be following it up with the second book, as soon as it comes out.

03. Reading Next:
Fifty Shades Freed by EL James. The third and final book of the Fifty Shades trilogy will be the next book I pick up, though it will probably turn into a simultaneous read with A Dance With Dragons. After all, it's sitting on my coffee table begging me to begin.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

A Dance With Dragons (p.45)
         - George R. R. Martin

"It were the black one," the man said, in a Ghiscari growl, "the winged shadow. He came down from the sky and... and..."

No. Dany shivered. No, no, oh no.
